Creating a Safer, Smarter and More Comfortable Learning Environment

We recently completed a comprehensive window and door improvement project at Cheadle Heath Primary School in Stockport, helping to enhance security, energy efficiency, accessibility and everyday comfort for pupils, staff and visitors.

Working within a busy educational environment required careful planning and coordination to ensure the installation was completed safely and efficiently, with minimal disruption to the school community.

Project Overview

The project involved upgrading windows and doors throughout the school with high-performance systems selected to provide improved security, ventilation, safety and long-term durability.

The installation included:

  • 18x Profile 22 white uPVC casement windows
  • 3x Profile 22 white uPVC French doors
  • Senior Architectural Systems SPW500/501 aluminium entrance doors
  • 6.8mm laminated safety and security glazing
  • Specialist window film for glare reduction and privacy
  • Avantis multi-point locking systems
  • Magnetic locking systems
  • Low-threshold accessibility solutions
  • Integrated trickle ventilation

The result is a safer, more comfortable and practical environment designed to meet the demands of a busy primary school.

The Client Brief

The school wanted to improve the performance and security of its existing windows and doors while creating a more comfortable environment for pupils and staff.

Key priorities included:

  • Increasing accessibility and reducing trip hazards.
  • Providing durable, low-maintenance solutions.

High-Performance Profile 22 Windows

We installed eighteen Profile 22 white uPVC casement windows, specified with high-security shootbolt locking systems, restrictor hinges and 6.8mm laminated safety and security glazing.

The laminated glazing provides an additional layer of protection by helping maintain the integrity of the glass following impact, making it particularly suitable for a school environment.

Specialist window film was also incorporated to help reduce glare on classroom screens and teaching materials while improving privacy.

Integrated trickle ventilation provides controlled background airflow, helping to improve indoor air quality, reduce condensation and maintain a comfortable learning environment without compromising security.

Secure Profile 22 French Doors

The project also included three Profile 22 white uPVC French doors.

The doors feature:

  • 6.8mm laminated safety and security glazing
  • Low aluminium thresholds
  • Magnetic locking systems
  • Avantis multi-point locking hardware

The multi-point locking system provides enhanced security around the door frame, while the laminated glazing adds further protection. The low-threshold design also helps improve accessibility and minimise trip hazards for pupils, staff and visitors.

Senior Architectural Aluminium Entrance Doors

To complete the project, we installed Senior Architectural Systems SPW500/501 aluminium entrance doors, finished in RAL 9910 White powder-coated paint.

The doors feature double pivoted anti-finger trap doors, concealed hold-open transom closers, bespoke manifestation graphics, 300mm D handles, low aluminium thresholds and twin hook-lock security systems.

The anti-finger trap design was particularly suited to the school environment, helping reduce the risk of injury during busy periods, while the robust aluminium construction provides durability for high-traffic areas.

Security Built into Every Element

Security was a key consideration throughout the project, with multiple features working together to provide protection across the school.

From laminated safety glazing and high-security locking systems to restrictor hinges and magnetic locks, each element was carefully specified to provide a balance of safety, security and everyday usability.

The Result

The completed installation has created a safer, more comfortable and more secure environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

The new windows and doors provide improved thermal performance, ventilation, privacy, accessibility and security, while the durable, low-maintenance systems are designed to deliver reliable performance for years to come.

This project demonstrates how carefully specified glazing and door systems can provide a practical, long-term investment for educational environments.
